In short
A leaking dishwasher is losing water at the door, at a hose connection or at the sump, and those three are found in completely different ways. On this machine the first suspect is spray hitting the door vent, or a tall item deflecting water.
What you observe
- Water at the front, below the door — The door seal, the door itself, or spray reaching the vent.
- Water at one front corner only — Points at the cabinet being out of level or a door out of square.
- Water under the middle of the machine — A hose connection or the sump, and it needs the machine pulled out.
- NEAR MISS — water stands inside the tub and never reaches the floor — That is a drainage failure, not a leak, and it has its own page.
Causes, most likely first on a SKS dishwasher
- Spray hitting the door vent, or a tall item deflecting water — This leaks only on some loads, which is why it looks intermittent and mysterious. Ranked first on a SKS dishwasher: it explains a leak that appears on some loads and not others, which no seal fault ever does.
- Door gasket hardened, displaced or dirty — Food debris pressed into the seal holds the door open by a fraction, which is enough.
- Machine not level, or the door out of square — A dishwasher tipped forward carries its water to the door seal instead of away from it.
- Fill or drain hose connection weeping — Push-fit and clipped connections behind the machine loosen over time and weep rather than burst.
Check in this order, and why
- Note whether the leak happens on every load or only on some — Look for a tall item standing near the door.
- Run a finger round the gasket and look for hard, flattened or displaced sections — A gasket that has lost its spring no longer seals however hard the door shuts.
- Put a level across the door opening and along the tub floor — Out of level shows as water at one front corner only.
What an owner can safely check
- Reload with nothing tall standing against the door and nothing deflecting a spray arm, then run the same cycle — A leak that disappears with the load rearranged was never a seal fault.
About 15 min
- Wipe the door gasket and the tub lip clean, then press the gasket back into its channel all the way round — A gasket that is clean, seated and still springy seals; one that stays flattened when pressed is finished.
Tools: warm soapy water, clothAbout 15 min
- STOP HERE if the next step needs a panel off or a meter on live terminals — That is where the owner checks end and a service call begins, whatever the ranking says.
Before you open anything
Safety
Power off at the breaker or isolation switch before any hand goes into the sump, and give a capacitor time to bleed down. Assume there is glass in the water: glove and torch, never bare hands. The water supply valve gets closed before a hose is loosened. Keep weight off the open door, and let the machine cool before reaching in after a hot cycle — the water and the heater both stay hot for a while.
When to call a technician
Owner work here is the seal, the load, the levelling and the connections you can see. The sump, the heater seal and the pump seal are behind the machine and under the tub. Leave the supply valve shut until it is fixed. Door and hinge work on a panelled machine is a trained job: the panel weight is carried by the hinge springs and a mis-set hinge damages the cabinetry as well as the appliance.

What this page does not cover
This page covers the SKS dishwasher as a class, not one family or model line. Where a family- or model-specific page exists for your unit it is linked above and it is the better answer — read it first. Deliberately not here: part numbers, wiring colours, panel removal order and torque figures, all of which differ between families under one nameplate.
