LG Refrigerator Door Gasket Replacement
An LG refrigerator door gasket that lets the fridge run long, sweat, or frost over has usually lost its magnetic grip or taken a permanent set. Confirm it with the dollar-bill test, and on most LG models the fix is a tool-free friction-fit swap (part ADX73550625).
The magnetic strip inside the gasket should pull firmly against the steel cabinet the whole way around; where it doesn't, warm air leaks in.
The dollar-bill test#
Close the door on a dollar bill and pull it out, moving around the perimeter every 6 inches and paying extra attention to the corners. It should drag with moderate resistance everywhere; anywhere it slides free, the magnet has weakened or the rubber has deformed at that spot.
Do You Have the Right Tools?
Refrigerant gauges ($200+), vacuum pump ($250), leak detector ($150), and EPA-certified recovery equipment. Our technician arrives with $3,000+ in professional tools — your diagnostic is free.

Why LG gaskets fail#
- Weakened magnets — over 8–15 years the flexible magnetic strip loses pull.
- Compression set — the rubber takes a permanent flattened shape where it presses the cabinet and stops springing back.
- Mold in the folds — mold eats into the rubber and opens gaps.
- Tears — yanking the door hard, or children hanging on it, rips the gasket.
- Food residue — sticky spills on the sealing face keep it from meeting the cabinet cleanly.
Replacing it#
Most LG gaskets friction-fit into a channel around the door liner — no screws, no adhesive, no tools. A few older models hold the liner with screws behind the gasket, needing a Phillips #2.
- Start at the top center and peel the old gasket firmly out of its channel, working around the perimeter.
- Warm the new gasket in hot water or with a hair dryer for 5–10 minutes first — it ships folded, and warming relaxes the creases.
- Begin at the top center, pressing the retaining lip into the channel, then work down both sides pressing every few inches, and finish at the bottom center.
- Close the door and re-run the dollar-bill test; reseat any section that doesn't grip.
Safety First — Know the Risks
Refrigerant (R-134a/R-600a) requires EPA certification to handle. Improper discharge is a federal violation and health hazard. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

Parts and cost#
| Part | LG number | Cost & effort |
|---|---|---|
| Refrigerator door gasket | ADX73550625 | Part only — usually tool-free |
| Freezer door gasket | ADX73550635 | Part only — friction-fit |
| French-door gasket (per door) | Model-specific | Match the full model number |
Gaskets are model-specific in length, profile, and mounting, so match your complete model number before ordering.
LG uses a separate gasket for each door, so order for the one that's failing: the fresh-food door (ADX73550625) and the freezer door (ADX73550635) are different lengths, and French-door models take a specific gasket per door. A common slip is buying a single gasket for a French-door fridge and finding it fits only one side — count the doors you're resealing first. On an older fridge it's often worth resealing both doors at once, since the magnets weaken on roughly the same schedule.
Keep mold out and energy down#
Mold loves the warm, damp folds — especially the lower sections of French-door models — so wipe them monthly with warm water and baking soda (about 2 tablespoons per quart), getting into every crevice and drying thoroughly. Skip bleach; it degrades the rubber and shortens the gasket's life. There's a real payoff, too: a leaking gasket can raise the fridge's electricity use by 5–15% as the compressor runs longer, so a fresh seal often pays for itself within a year while easing wear on LG's expensive Linear Compressor. A small tear can be nursed along with food-safe silicone, but anything over an inch means replacement, and gaskets generally last 8–12 years with regular cleaning.
