LG Dishwasher Won't Fill with Water Explained

Most Likely Cause#

An LG dishwasher that will not fill is nearly always blocked or starved somewhere between the wall and the tub, and most of the time the fix is upstream of the machine. Start with the simple things — a supply valve not fully open or a kinked hose — then the inlet valve's mesh screen clogged with sediment, then the inlet valve solenoid itself. A stuck base-pan float and, rarely, the control board's fill relay round it out. LG flags the fill timeout as an IE error.

Follow the Water Path#

On LDT and LDP models the water runs from the household supply valve, through the hose, into the inlet valve's mesh screen, then the solenoid valve, and finally the tub. Checking that path in order is faster than guessing: most no-fill calls are solved at the first two stops — a valve left half-closed after plumbing work, or a hose kinked behind the machine — before you ever open a panel. Quick Checks Before Disassembly#

1. Confirm the household supply valve under the sink is fully open — these get bumped or left closed after any plumbing or install work.
2. Inspect the braided supply hose end to end for a kink or a collapsed liner, especially if it is more than several years old.
3. Turn off the water, disconnect the hose at the valve, and check the mesh screen inside the inlet port for sediment.
4. Clean the screen with a toothbrush and white vinegar, but do not pull it out — it is pressed in and not meant to be removed.
5. Reconnect and retest before going any further.

Testing the Inlet Valve#

If the supply, hose, and screen are all good, move to the valve itself (part 5220FR2006H, behind the lower-left panel on most models). With power off, measure the solenoid coil resistance; an open reading means a burned-out coil that cannot open. If the coil reads normal, test for 120V at the connector during a fill attempt — voltage present but no water means the valve is stuck mechanically from scale or corrosion, while no voltage points back at the board's fill relay. LG also wants at least a modest supply pressure, so a very slow fill can simply be low household pressure rather than a failed part.

Repair or Replace?#

An open valve, a cleaned screen, or a new hose costs little, and even the inlet valve is an inexpensive part on an otherwise sound dishwasher — so a no-fill fault almost never justifies replacement. Prevent It Coming Back#

• Clean the inlet-valve mesh screen once a year, before sediment can block it.
