What the display is telling you
F9-3 says the oven door latch or its lock switch, or the wiring between them and the control, is not reporting correctly. Self-clean is off the table until that is resolved; a plain bake may run if the door is unlocked and closes properly.
Error codes
Reference| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
| F9-3 | There may be a problem with the Oven Door Latch, the Door Lock Switch, or the associated wiring. |
What you notice alongside F9-3
- The door will not lock for self-clean — The latch motor runs, but the control never sees the locked position.
- The door stays locked after the oven has cooled — The latch stopped in the locked position, or the switch reports it there.
- Bake will not start with the door closed — Some controls refuse to heat while the latch position is unknown.
- The code began after the door was removed or knocked — A shifted door or bent latch hook no longer meets the latch.
What triggers F9-3, ranked
- Latch motor or lock switch assembly worn — The most common cause: the switch contacts and motor cam sit in self-clean heat, and they wear or stick with age.
- Latch blocked or misaligned — Second, and owner-checkable: the hook cannot reach its position if the door sits proud or the slot is fouled.
- Wiring or connector at the latch — Third: the harness runs over the hot cavity top, and a heat-hardened wire or loose connector cuts the switch signal.
- Control board — Last: only once the latch, switch and wiring test good does the control come under suspicion.
Diagnostic order
- Check the door closes flush — No tools; a door that sits proud or rubs keeps the hook from engaging.
- Power-down reset with the door closed — Many latches drive to a home position when power returns.
- Listen for the latch motor — Silence when locking starts points at the motor or wiring; running without locking points at the switch.
- Leave switch and motor tests to a technician — They sit behind the top panel, near the hot cavity.
Reset and owner-safe checks
- Clear and close the door — Wipe the latch area with a damp cloth once the oven is cool, and close the door firmly.

- Try a plain bake — If the door is unlocked, a short bake shows whether the oven is usable while the latch waits for repair.
About 15 min
- Check the hinges — Open the door halfway and look for a hinge that sits differently from the other.

- STOP if the door is locked and hot — Never force a locked door or try to release the latch by hand: wait until the oven is fully cool.
Safety first
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. With the breaker off, press a key to confirm the display stays dark before you touch anything behind a panel. Never defeat the door lock or open a locked door while the oven is hot; the latch is a safety interlock.
When a reset is not enough
Call when the code returns after a reset, when the door stays locked once the oven is cool, or when the latch motor runs without locking. Latch and switch replacement means opening the top of the oven with the power off, and a door that is stuck locked needs the latch released from inside, not forced.

Generalized information
This is generalized information: it reads F9-3 the way Jenn-Air documents it for Jenn-Air wall ovens and ranges whose electronic control reports codes in this form. It does not apply to Jenn-Air models with knob-only controls, Jenn-Air cooktops and microwaves, which keep their own code lists, or sister brands built on the same platform, whose lists can read differently. No model-specific page for F9-3 exists yet; when one does, it is the more specific answer for that model line.
