What the code means
The documented reading of F04 is a fault in the electronic oven control or its associated wiring. The oven should not be used until the code clears and stays clear; if it returns after a reset, the fault is real and needs live testing behind the control panel.

| F04 | There may be a problem with the Electronic Oven Control, or the associated wiring. |
What the oven does alongside the code
- The code is intermittent — Days can pass without it, then it returns during an ordinary cook.
- The cooktop works but the oven does not — On many ranges the surface units are switched separately, so they can carry on while the oven control is in a fault state.
- NEAR MISS: wrong temperature with no code — Without a code, calibration or the temperature sensor is the likelier subject, and the checks differ.
What triggers the code, in likelihood order
- A connector that has worked loose — Ranked first when F04 comes and goes with no link to heat: an intermittent signal is the signature of a connection, not of a dead control.
- A one-off glitch rather than a failed part — A control can latch a fault from a single bad moment on the supply. If a clean power cycle clears it for good, nothing else was wrong.
- A harness fault between the control and the parts it drives — Insulation baked brittle near the oven vent, or a wire pinched during installation, gives the control a signal it cannot make sense of.
What to check first, and why
- Pin down the timing — Whether the code arrives at power-up, mid-cook or late in a long bake is the cheapest diagnostic there is.
- Power-cycle at the breaker and watch — Off for a few minutes, back on, then a plain bake. Whether the code returns, and when, sorts the rest of the list.
- Check the vents and the cooling fan — With the oven on, the vents around the control should be clear and, on ovens that have one, the cooling fan should be audible.
What an owner can safely do
- Record the pattern — Write down each appearance of the code with the function in use. Two or three entries usually show a pattern.
Tools: notebook or phoneAbout 5 min
- Reset the control with a power cycle — Switch the oven off at its breaker, wait a few minutes and switch it back on. A prompt to set the clock afterwards is normal.
About 5 min
- Stop before any panel comes off — Everything past this point needs live measurements or a panel removed; that is the line between an owner check and a service call.
Safety before any check
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The control sits close to oven heat and live wiring; scorched trim or a smell of hot plastic means leaving the oven off at the breaker until it is inspected.
When to call a technician
Book a technician once the reset has failed or F04 returns within a cooking session. In the meantime keep the oven off at the breaker if it heats by itself, beeps without stopping or smells hot around the control.

Generalized information
This is the generalized reading of F04 across the Jenn-Air oven line. It applies to Jenn-Air ovens and ranges whose code list carries F04 with this electronic oven control-and-wiring reading. It does not apply to Jenn-Air cooktops, ventilation hoods, or any model whose documentation gives F04 another meaning, and the same characters can mean something else on another brand. Where a model-specific page exists for your model line, it is the more specific answer and comes first.
