The short answer
F22 is an internal communication error on the touch control module. The panel and the module behind it have stopped agreeing, so the cooktop stops accepting input rather than acting on messages it cannot verify. Cooking capability is intact; what is broken is the conversation between the panel and the rest of the appliance.

What you observe, and what to record
- The panel lights but nothing responds — Presses are being read and not delivered.
- Whether the ${A} still does everything else it should — What still works narrows the search as effectively as what does not, and it is the question a technician asks first.
- Whether the kitchen was unusually warm or humid — Marginal connections and temperature protections both behave differently in a hot room, and a fault that only appears in summer is telling you that.
Causes, most likely first on this cooktop
- A connector on the module ribbon that has relaxed — First: the module sits under the glass in a space that heats and cools every use, and a fine-pitch connector is what moves there.
- Moisture or residue that has reached the module — Second: a boil-over that ran into the seam does not stop at the glass, and it corrodes contacts slowly.
- The touch control module itself — Third: a genuine failure, and the conclusion once the connection has been checked.
Check in this order, and why
- Cut power for a minute and watch the start-up — A code that clears and holds is a transient; one that returns instantly is a connection.
- Note whether running zones keep running — That distinguishes a link lost mid-session from one that never came up.
- Ask whether there has been a spill — A boil-over that reached the seams dates the fault and points at the cause.
What an owner can safely check
- Cut power at the breaker for about a minute — Clears a latched state and gives you a clean start-up to watch.
About 5 min
- Clear the area around the ${A} before anyone visits — Access is charged for like anything else, and a technician who cannot reach the back of the appliance cannot test it.
About 15 min
- Wipe the control area with a barely damp cloth and dry it — Never sprayed cleaner, which runs into the seams. A damp panel produces faults that look electrical and are not.
Tools: microfibre clothAbout 10 min
- STOP HERE — the module is under the glass — Reaching it means working from below, on the live side.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not pour water onto hot glass to cool it and do not work on a top that is still warm: thermal shock cracks a ceramic surface, and a cracked top takes the whole appliance out of service.
When to call a technician
Call once power has been cycled, the top has been dry for a day, and the code still appears. A communication fault that survives that is a connector or a module, and both need the cooktop approached from underneath. If the code appeared immediately after a large boil-over, say so — it changes what the technician expects to find.

What this page does not cover
This page reads F22 for Jenn-Air cooktops in general, from the manufacturer's shared code index. A code can be documented differently for one family, so where a model-line page exists for your unit it is the more specific answer and is linked below. Not here: wiring colours, connector positions and part numbers, which differ by family.
