Frigidaire Oven F11: Shorted Key or Stuck Relay at Startup
What F11 Catches
F11 fires during the ERC board's power-on self-test when the board detects either a touchpad key stuck closed or a relay that is not in its expected default state. Unlike F10 (which triggers during cooking), F11 triggers at power-up before the oven begins heating.
This early detection is a safety advantage. F11 catches a welded relay or shorted touchpad before the oven has a chance to overheat.

Two Scenarios
Scenario 1: Touchpad membrane short. The overlay has a permanent moisture bridge or worn spacer causing a closed circuit. The board reads this as a stuck key during startup and flags F11. Diagnosis follows the same pattern as the dishwasher Er code: pull breaker for ten minutes, restore power without touching anything. Immediate F11 means a permanent overlay short.
Scenario 2: Relay stuck from previous session. A relay welded during the last cooking session but the board did not catch it (because F10 only monitors during active heating). On the next power-up, the self-test detects the stuck relay and flags F11.
Diagnosis
- Power cycle (breaker off ten minutes, on). If F11 does not return, transient issue. Monitor.
- If F11 returns immediately: observe if any element begins glowing without button press. Glowing element = welded relay (board replacement). No glowing = touchpad short (overlay replacement).
- To differentiate further: disconnect the touchpad ribbon cable from the board. Power on. If F11 clears with the touchpad disconnected, the touchpad is at fault. If F11 persists without the touchpad, the board relay is stuck.

Safety First — Know the Risks
Gas ovens involve live gas lines — a loose connection creates explosion and carbon monoxide risk. Electric ovens run on 240V circuits. Our techs are licensed and insured — let them handle the risk.

FAQ
Is F11 as urgent as F10? F11 catches the problem at startup, before heating begins. It is less immediately dangerous than F10 (active overheating) but indicates the same underlying relay or touchpad failure. Repair promptly.
F11 appeared after a power outage. Power restoration after an outage can create voltage spikes that weld relay contacts or damage touchpad circuits.
Can I disconnect the touchpad and use the oven? No. Without the touchpad, you cannot input cooking commands. This is a diagnostic step only.
