The short answer
Two very different things produce this complaint on a European machine. One is flood protection latching on water in the base pan, which makes the machine drain endlessly and never advance. The other is not a fault at all: eco programs on this platform run far longer than most owners expect, especially on a cold supply. - The machine pumps continuously and never takes water — Note: Flood protection has latched on water under the tub. The pump running is the symptom, not the fault.

Safety

Opening the door mid-cycle exposes you to water that may be near boiling and to a burst of steam: open it slowly, stand to one side, and let the machine settle for a minute first. Never defeat or tape the door latch to keep a machine running with the door open. The inlet hose carries mains wiring in its outer sleeve to a solenoid at the tap end and must never be cut, shortened or repaired. Where the service line falls
The base pan is dry, the filter is clear, the door latches, the tap is open, and the machine still stalls at the same point every time. The base pan refills after being dried, because the leak feeding it has to be found before anything else is worth doing. The machine waits at fill with a fully open tap and a hose that is not kinked, which points at the inlet solenoid in the hose head. The cycle runs to the end but the load is cold, which is a heating fault rather than a cycle fault. The machine runs with the door open at any point, which is a latch safety fault and means stopping use immediately.
