The short answer
On a compact refrigerator sold under a licensed housewares badge, a warm cabinet is far more often a frosted-over cold plate or a starved condenser than a failed sealed system. These units cool with a static plate and no defrost heater, so frost that nobody clears is the single most common cause. What you are seeing
- The cabinet is cool but never cold, and the compressor seems to run all the time — Note: Classic starved-capacity picture: frost, clearance or a poor door seal, not a dead system.
- A thick white blanket of frost covers the plate at the back of the liner — Note: The plate is the evaporator. Frost on it is insulation, and this unit has nothing to melt it off.

- Listen at the compressor for a steady hum, a click followed by silence, or nothing — Why: This separates a running system that cannot keep up from a system that is not starting.
- Find the thermostat bulb and confirm it is clipped tight against the plate — Why: A displaced bulb reads room air and satisfies itself early, which looks exactly like weak cooling.
- Close the door on a strip of paper at four points around the frame — Why: A strip that slides out freely at any point is a leak large enough to matter on a cabinet this small.

Never chip frost off the plate with a knife or a screwdriver: the plate is thin aluminium with refrigerant tubing bonded to it, and a puncture converts a defrost job into a scrapped cabinet. The compressor clicks and falls silent on a repeating cycle, which points at the relay or overload and needs a meter on live terminals. You find an oily film around the compressor or hear a hiss from the tubing, which indicates a refrigerant leak and is regulated work. Frost returns to a heavy blanket within days of a complete defrost, with a gasket that passes the paper test.
