The short answer
Poor results on an Essentiell are usually a loading problem before they are a machine problem. A slimline rack packs tightly, plates nest against one another, and a single tall item stops the upper arm turning — and any of those removes whole areas of the wash while the machine performs perfectly. Filter neglect is second.
The problems that actually happen, by what you observe
- Some items spotless, others untouched — The signature of shadowing: water never reached the dirty ones.
- The upper rack consistently worse than the lower — The upper spray arm is being stalled, usually by a tall item on the lower rack.
- Gritty debris redeposited on clean items — A loaded manual filter recirculating what it should be trapping.
- Cups and bowls full of dirty water at the end — Items loaded flat rather than angled, so they collect rather than drain.
- Standing water over the filter — A genuine drain restriction — the filter, the hose, or the sink connection.
- Door falls open or sits proud of the cabinet fronts — Hinge or spring wear on an integrated door carrying a decor panel.
Problem classes in frequency order on this brand
- Loading in a narrow rack — First on a slimline machine. Plates nest, bowls shadow each other and tall items foul the upper arm — and because the machine cannot tell you any of that, it runs a full programme and produces a load that is half clean. It is the leading cause and it costs nothing to fix.
- Spray arm stalling — Second, and closely related: an arm that cannot turn covers nothing. Spinning both arms by hand after loading takes seconds and prevents the complaint entirely.
- Filter neglect — Third. The filter is manual and needs rinsing regularly; once loaded it returns debris to the load and then restricts the drain, producing two complaints from one cause.
- Drain routing and restriction — Fourth. A kinked hose or a missing high loop leaves water in the sump or lets waste siphon back into the tub.
- Door hinge and spring wear, then component faults — Last. An integrated door carries a heavy front and its springs work hard; pumps, heaters and boards fail far less often than they are blamed.
Which of these an owner can fix
Loading with space between items, angling cups and bowls, keeping tall items clear of the upper arm, spinning both arms by hand before starting and cleaning the filter regularly fix the great majority of complaints on this machine. Drain hose routing is owner work too. Call a technician for door springs and hinge cables on an integrated machine, for leaks inside the cabinet, and for anything that trips protection.
