The short answer
The most common Equator complaint is a cycle that never seems to end, and it is usually not a fault at all — low-water compact machines run long programmes by design. The genuine faults sit below that: drain routing, filter neglect and loading. Knowing which of the two you have saves a service call.
The problems that actually happen, by what you observe
- Cycles that run for hours — Normal on a low-water compact machine, and the single most reported non-fault.
- Cycle appears to stall with the display unchanged — Long heat and soak phases show no visible progress. Give it time before intervening.
- Standing water over the filter at the end — A genuine drain restriction: filter, hose routing or the sink connection.
- Dishes gritty despite a full programme — A loaded manual filter putting debris back onto the load.
- Dishes wet at the end of the cycle — Compact machines hold less residual heat. A rinse aid helps more than a repair.
- Water on the floor beside the machine — Usually the supply or drain connection made at installation rather than an internal leak.
Problem classes in frequency order on this brand
- Cycle length mistaken for a fault — First, and it belongs at the top because it generates real service calls on healthy machines. A compact dishwasher compensates for a small water charge with time, so a programme that would take under an hour on an older machine runs far longer here. Nothing is wrong, and shortening it means choosing a shorter programme rather than fixing anything.
- Drain routing and restriction — Second, and this one is real. A drain hose without a high loop siphons back, a kinked hose behind the machine stops it draining, and a partly blocked sink connection does both.
- Filter neglect — Third. The filter is manual, it loads quickly in a small tub, and once loaded it returns grit to the dishes and restricts the drain.
- Loading and spray-arm obstruction — Fourth. Compact racks are tight, and one tall item stalling the arm removes a whole sector of the wash.
- Inlet valve, pump and heater faults — Last. Genuine component failures happen, but on this platform they are far outnumbered by the four causes above.
Which of these an owner can fix
Letting the cycle finish, choosing a shorter programme when time matters, cleaning the filter, fixing the drain hose routing and loading with the spray arm in mind cover nearly everything reported on these machines. Call a technician when the machine will not fill or drain with a proven-clear path, when water appears under the cabinet with dry connections, or for any burning smell — and before booking, check that the complaint is not simply the programme doing what it was designed to do.
