The answer, first
Before assuming an Ellipse unit is finished, rule out three free things: a tripped outlet or breaker, the control set to off, and showroom or demo mode left enabled. Each of them presents as a dead appliance. The ranking below is ordered for what is actually reachable before a technician is needed.
What the machine is telling you
- It runs for a while after being unplugged and plugged back in, then stops — A thermal overload resetting as it cools, which fits a relay or a cooling fault.
- A click every few minutes, then silence — The compressor trying to start and its overload cutting in.
- Nothing at all: no light, no fan, no display — Supply first: the outlet, the plug, the breaker or a tripped protection device.
- The display shows a showroom or demo indicator — A mode that keeps the lights and display alive while the cooling is disabled.
- NEAR MISS: a new unit that has not cooled down yet after delivery — An appliance that has been transported needs to stand and then run for a while.
Causes, most likely first
- Ambient temperature outside the design range — First, and by a clear margin: it is also why a unit that worked all summer can appear to fail in winter, which is a clue rather than a coincidence.
- No power at the outlet, or a tripped protection device — Second most likely here: the outlet behind a refrigerator is never inspected, and a tripped breaker or a protection device that has opened presents as a completely dead appliance.
- Control set to off, or showroom and demo mode enabled — Third: it is indistinguishable from a failed appliance and it clears with a key combination, which is why it is worth eliminating early.
The order of checks, and why
- Note the room temperature and whether this started seasonally — A fault that appeared with the cold weather points here.
- Prove the outlet with a lamp and check the breaker — Reset a tripped breaker once.
- Check the temperature setting and look for a demo or showroom indicator — The manual gives the key combination; it is usually a long press on two keys.
