Before assuming an Elisii unit has lost its charge, clean the condenser and check that nothing is blocking the vents inside. Those two checks are free, they are the cause in a large share of cases, and they are what a technician will do first anyway. A refrigerator holds food safely at 40 °F (4 °C) or below.
What the machine is telling you
- The fresh-food section is warm while the freezer is still cold — Airflow between the two compartments, or a defrost fault, rather than lost cooling.
- The cabinet sides or the grille area are very hot — Poor clearance or a blocked condenser, both of which are installation-level causes.
- No air movement at the vents inside when the unit is running — The evaporator fan is stopped or the air path is iced over.
- NEAR MISS: a section that is warm after a big grocery load or a long door-open — Recovery takes time after warm food goes in.
Likely causes in order of odds
- Condenser coils or condenser fan blocked with dust — The leading cause here: it is the defining maintenance item on this appliance and it is almost always overdue, particularly where a pet lives in the house. It is free, it is reachable, and it is the cause technicians find most often on a unit that runs constantly.
- Clearance, ambient temperature or a garage installation — Second most likely here: a cabinet with no clearance recirculates its own waste heat, and an appliance in an unheated space can be outside the conditions it was designed for.
- Vents blocked inside, or the cabinet overpacked — Third in order: on most builds the fresh-food section is cooled by air from the freezer, so blocking that transfer vent warms the food section while the freezer stays cold.
What to test first, second, third
- Clean the condenser coils and check the condenser fan turns freely — Behind the lower grille or on the back, depending on the build.
- Check the clearance above, behind and beside the cabinet — Compare it with the manual, and feel whether the air leaving the grille is hot.
- Find the vents and clear a hand-width of space around each — Look at the back wall and the divider between the compartments.

When to call a technician
Call once the condenser is clean, the fan turns, the vents are clear, the gasket seals and the evaporator is not iced, and the unit still will not hold temperature. What remains is a sensor, the defrost circuit or the sealed system, and the last of those needs certification.
