- Plug, outlet or cord connection overheating — Second: documentation for this badge is thin and the install is rarely checked, and a cord routed by the household behind a pushed-back cabinet is the likeliest place for a damaged connection.
- Board or suppression component failing — Third: suppression components fail short and take the circuit with them, sometimes with the burnt smell that brought you here.
What to test first, second, third
- Check for any sign of a leak at the base or under the cabinet — If the machine trips and the base is wet, the two facts are the same fault and it needs attention before anything is reconnected.
- With the power off, look at the plug, the outlet and the visible cord — Discolouration, a smell of hot plastic, or a cord flattened by the cabinet are all reasons to stop using the machine immediately.
