Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Keep the refrigerator at or below forty degrees Fahrenheit and the freezer at or below zero degrees Fahrenheit, and confirm with a thermometer rather than a display you already suspect. Do not operate the appliance while standing in water.
When to call
Call when a reset, the lock check and the demonstration-mode check have all failed, or when the display is dead and the cabinet is warming. Quote the code and say whether the machine is still cooling. On an under-counter or drinks cabinet, ask about parts availability, since specialist models can have longer lead times.
