The short answer
When an Electrolux refrigerator stops making ice the usual cause is a water supply that is shut off, kinked or frozen, with a water filter long overdue for a change next. It is a full-size unit from a global maker, with the electronic controls and sealed drive that go with that, and that is what puts those two at the top rather than the icemaker itself.
What you actually observe
- The bin is empty and stays empty — Nothing arriving at all points at water or at the arm, rather than at the freezing.
- The cubes have fused into one lump in the bin — That is ice that melted slightly and refroze, which points at temperature or at a door that has been standing open.
- NEAR MISS: there is water under the unit as well as no ice — Then you have a supply line or a drain fault and the leak page covers it properly.
The causes, most likely first on this brand
- A water supply that is shut off, kinked or frozen — No water means no ice, and the supply fails in three ordinary ways: a valve turned off behind the unit, a line kinked when the cabinet was pushed back, or a line frozen where it runs through a cold part of the cabinet. Ranked first on an Electrolux refrigerator: a plumbed full-size cabinet has a long supply run with a valve, a filter and several joints, and any one of them can stop the water.
- A water filter long overdue for a change — A filter that has done its life throttles the flow until the mould fills only part way. Ranked second on an Electrolux refrigerator: a full-featured cabinet with a filtered supply will restrict at the filter long before it restricts anywhere else.
- The shut-off arm or switch is in the off position — Ranked third on an Electrolux refrigerator: it is the first thing to check because it is free, it takes seconds, and it is right more often than anyone expects.
- A freezer that is not cold enough to freeze a batch — Ranked fourth on an Electrolux refrigerator: a freezer holds food safely at zero Fahrenheit or below, and an icemaker needs that same cold to release a batch.
Check in this order, and why this order
- Trace the supply line from the valve to the back of the cabinet — Look for a closed valve and for a kink where the unit was pushed back.
- Look at the shape of whatever ice is arriving — Hollow or half-size cubes say restricted flow; none at all says no supply.
- Find the bail arm or switch and confirm it is down or on — The single most common cause, and the cheapest to rule out, so it goes first.
What an owner can safely check
- Open the supply valve fully and ease any kink out of the line — Pull the cabinet out far enough to give the line a gentle loop rather than a bend, then push it back gently.

- Change the water filter if one is fitted and flush the line afterwards — Run water through the dispenser until it is clear before judging the next batch of ice.

Before you open anything
Safety
Switch the unit off at the wall before reaching behind it or working on a supply line, and close the water valve before touching any fitting. Never chip ice out of a mould or a fill tube with a knife or a screwdriver: the mould has a heater and a sensor in it and both are easy to puncture.
When to call a technician
Call once the arm, the supply, the compartment temperature and the filter are all clean and there is still no ice, because what is left is the fill valve or the module and both mean the icemaker out. Call sooner if you find water on the floor behind the unit, or if the freezing compartment itself is not holding temperature, because then the ice is only the symptom you happened to notice first.
