Small drum, small loads
In-room ventless dryers are small, and residents load them like the large machines they replaced. On this machine, load size is the first thing to change when drying is poor, because a compact drum that cannot tumble cannot dry at any temperature.
What you are seeing
- Items at the centre of the load are still wet at the end.
- Heavy items never dry in one cycle.
- Drying got worse after the resident began doing bigger loads.
- The load comes out creased and damp rather than dry.
- Two cycles are needed for what used to take one.
- Not this fault: A cold load from the start is a heating fault - read that page.
- Not this fault: A cycle that ends early is a cycle fault, not a drying one.
Most likely causes, in Direct Supply order
- Overloading a compact drum — Why ranked: First on an in-room machine. It is small, and a load sized for a family machine will not tumble in it.
- Condenser and filters not cleaned — Why ranked: Second: the machine removes water through the condenser, and a furred condenser slows every load.
- Loads arriving too wet from a compact washer — Why ranked: Third. Compact washers extract less than full-size machines, so the dryer is asked to remove far more water than it would be in a laundry room.
- Closet air too warm because the doors are shut — Why ranked: Fourth. The machine needs somewhere to reject heat, and a sealed closet takes that away.
- Mixed heavy and light items in one load — Why ranked: Last, which leaves towels damp while everything else is dry, and is a habit rather than a fault.
What to check, in order
- Run the same load split into two and compare. — Because: Load size is the leading cause on a compact machine and splitting the load tests it directly.
- Check every filter and the condenser for lint. — Because: A furred condenser slows drying on every load and is the second cause.
- Check how wet the load is when it leaves the washer. — Because: A compact washer that is not extracting well makes a healthy dryer look weak.
- Open the closet doors for one cycle and compare. — Because: Rejecting heat into a sealed closet is a slow, invisible restriction.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never run a closet dryer with items stored on or against it, and keep the machine and its air path clear of bedding and clothing. Never run the machine without its filters in place. Do not dry items that have been in contact with oil or solvent. Report a scorched smell immediately.
When this becomes a service call
Half loads still need two cycles with clean filters. The condenser cannot be cleaned or reached. The machine reports complete with a soaking load. Drying has fallen off sharply with no change in use.
