Why a cycle stalls
A machine that starts and then stops is normally waiting for something it never gets - usually water. On a compact import fed from an under-sink supply, a partly closed valve or a blocked inlet screen is the most common reason a cycle stalls partway through.
What you are seeing
- The cycle starts, runs briefly, then sits with the display still on.
- The machine stalls at the same point every time.
- It fills very slowly and then stops.
- The cycle time counts down and then jumps back up.
- It completes only if it is restarted partway through.
- Not this fault: A machine that never starts at all is a start fault - read the will-not-start page.
- Not this fault: Standing water at the end of a completed cycle is a drainage fault.
Most likely causes, in Dencrest order
- Water arriving too slowly or not at all — Why ranked: First on an owner-installed machine. A partly closed valve or a blocked inlet screen gives a machine that tries, waits, and eventually stops.
- Drain not clearing between stages — Why ranked: Second: many controls will not advance until the tub is empty, so a partly blocked filter or hose stalls the cycle rather than leaving water behind.
- Door easing open under heat, dropping the interlock — Why ranked: Third. A cycle that halts with no code and restarts on a firm push of the door has told you exactly what happened.
- Heating stage never satisfied — Why ranked: Fourth. If the water never reaches temperature the control waits, which shows as a countdown that stops moving or jumps back.
- Control board or sensor fault — Why ranked: Last, and the least likely on a machine with owner-made connections.
What to check, in order
- Note the exact point in the cycle where it stops, over two runs. — Because: A repeatable stall point names the stage that is failing, and the stage names the cause.
- Open the door mid-stall and look at the water level in the tub. — Because: Empty means it is waiting to fill; full means it is waiting to drain. That single look splits the top two causes.
- Check the supply valve under the sink is fully open, not just partly. — Because: A half-open valve is one of the most common findings on an owner-installed machine.
- Push the door firmly closed and see whether the cycle resumes. — Because: A cycle that restarts on a door push is an interlock problem, not a control problem.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Always close the supply valve before unscrewing an inlet hose, and expect the hose to hold water even after the valve is shut. Never wedge the door closed to keep a cycle running. Do not open the door fully mid-cycle; hot water and steam come out. Dry the floor before restoring power after any water work.
When this becomes a service call
The cycle stalls with a full tub and a clear filter. The machine fills normally and still stops at the same stage. A code appears at the stall and returns after a full power-down. The door will not hold the interlock even when pushed firmly.
