The answer first
A gas range should be almost silent apart from a soft roar at the burner and, on models with one, a convection or cooling fan — so a new noise is usually the burner mixture, a fan, or metal moving as it heats. On a Crosley Professional a range that is not level or not secured comes first. Cleaning burners, seating caps and grates, and checking clearances are owner work; fans, valves and regulators are not.
Signs that fit this page
- A popping sound as a burner lights or goes out — Delayed ignition or a blocked port; worth attending to rather than ignoring.
- A fan noise from the oven that rises and falls — A convection or cooling fan, most often with something touching the blade.
- Ticking and creaking as the oven heats or cools — Metal expanding; normal on every range.
- NEAR MISS — A gas smell with any noise — Stop. Leave the building and call from outside.
What is actually wrong, ranked
- A range that is not level or not secured — Most likely here: a pro-styled unit lives in a surround, and the clearances that surround leaves it are what decides whether it can breathe. An unsecured range rocks against its surround, and the anti-tip bracket is there to stop the whole cabinet moving under a loaded door.
- Grates or a cooktop panel rattling — Second on the list: Heavy grates that are not seated, or a cooktop that has been refitted after cleaning, rattle against the range with any vibration in the kitchen.
- A burner cap or head out of position — Third on the list: A cap sitting proud changes the air-to-gas mixture, which turns a soft burner into a roaring one and often gives a yellow flame with it.
- A convection or cooling fan catching something — Fourth on the list, and the least likely: A fan blade touching its shroud or a rack pushed too far back gives a regular scraping that comes and goes with the fan. The moving parts are sized for the bigger cabinet and they work harder than their domestic equivalents.
Check in this order, and why
- Check that the range is level and the anti-tip bracket is engaged — A range that moves when the oven door is pulled is a safety issue as much as a noise one. Start here: on this platform it is both the most likely finding and the quickest to confirm.
- Press each grate and the cooktop surface in turn — A rattle that changes under a hand is a seating problem rather than a mechanism.
- Lift and reseat each cap, and compare the flame with a quiet burner — A noisy burner beside a quiet one of the same size makes the comparison easy.
The checks you can do yourself
- Reseat the grates in their locating dimples and check the cooktop sits flat — On a pro-styled range the grates are heavy and easy to set down slightly out of place.
About 15 min
- Seat every cap and head squarely on its own burner and compare the flames — Caps are frequently swapped between burners after cleaning; match them by size.
About 15 min
- Stop here if the next move needs a meter on live terminals — That is where an owner check ends and a service call begins.
Before you open anything
Safety
If you smell gas: do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or 911 from outside. Do not look for the leak yourself. Otherwise, shut the appliance gas valve before moving the range and leave the anti-tip bracket engaged. Get a second person before you pull the cabinet out or tilt it.
What needs a technician
Call when the caps are seated, the ports are clear, the grates are square and the noise persists — and call straight away if every burner has become loud at once, because that points upstream of the appliance.

Scope of this page
This is the family-agnostic page for Crosley Professional ranges. There is no per-model page under this one today. Where one appears it is linked from this block and it is the page to trust for a specific cabinet. Deliberately not here: wiring colours, resistance values, torque figures and part numbers, which differ between families.
