What you are actually seeing
- A solid block of ice in the mould that never releases
- Small, hollow or half-formed cubes
- Ice with an odour or a taste
- Cubes fused into a single mass in the bin
- Not this fault: No ice and a freezer that is not properly cold
Ranked causes on a COMMERCIALCOOL refrigerator
- Freezer not cold enough for the harvest to run — Ranked here because: the cold control is a mechanical capillary thermostat on most of the range, so it fails as a discrete, testable part
- Water supply closed, kinked or at low pressure — Ranked here because: these units get slid into tight alcoves and under counters with no clearance, which is the single most common installation error on the platform
- Fill tube frozen — Ranked here because: the compact evaporator sits directly behind the rear liner and drains through a single short tube that clogs or freezes before anything else does
- Ice maker switched off or the feeler arm lifted — Ranked here because: a compact cabinet has so little thermal mass that loading and door habits change its behaviour more than they would on a full-size machine
- Water filter past its life or not seated — Ranked here because: a restriction builds gradually, so performance falls off long before anything stops
What to check, and in what order
- Put a thermometer in the freezer and read it after an hour
- Dispense water for ten seconds and judge the flow, or check the mould for a recent fill
- Change the water filter and purge several litres through the dispenser
Steps you can safely do yourself
- Change the water filter and purge several litres through the dispenser — Tools: replacement filter — Estimated time: about a quarter of an hour
- Empty the bin and look at the fill tube outlet at the back of the freezer for a plug of ice — Tools: flashlight — Estimated time: a few minutes
- Empty the bin completely, check for a wedged cube at the ejector and refit the bin fully — Tools: none — Estimated time: about ten minutes
- Confirm the ice maker is switched on and the feeler arm is down and free to move — Tools: none — Estimated time: a couple of minutes

When to call a technician
the mould fills and freezes but the harvest never turns, which is a module replacement the inlet valve or the supply line needs work behind the cabinet the freezer will not reach its temperature, since that is a cooling fault and not an ice one
