What you are most likely looking at
When ice stops on a Commercial Cool refrigerator, give any fix several hours before judging it. Production restarts slowly, and parts get replaced every day because somebody looked again too soon. Everything here assumes the machine is behaving now rather than intermittently.
Symptoms, and the ones that mean something else
- Water pooling under the bin or running down the back wall — An overfill or a misdirected fill; the valve or the tube alignment is at fault rather than the maker. If you can only do one check, make it this one.
- The bin arm or fill-level sensor is held out of position — A bag of shopping resting against the arm is enough to stop production entirely. Time it roughly, as the pattern matters more than the exact interval.
- Ice smells of the freezer — Old ice absorbing odours in the bin, not a production fault at all.
- Production is slower than it used to be rather than absent — A partial restriction somewhere on the water path, which usually means the filter.
The order of suspicion
- A frozen fill tube at the back of the maker — Common on any cabinet running slightly cold or with marginal pressure: the last of the water sits in the tube, freezes, and each subsequent fill makes the plug bigger.
- The bin arm or level sensor is being held in the full position — Worth checking before anything else mechanical, because the machine is behaving correctly and only its input is wrong. Nothing below this line is worth chasing until this one is ruled out.
- A failed ice-maker module or motor — Last, because it is the least likely and the only entry on this list that is not owner work.
- A filter fitted wrongly or a generic filter that does not seat — A filter that is not sealing restricts flow, and the symptom is indistinguishable from an old one. Confirming it costs less than assuming it, which is why it is worth the few minutes.
Check in this order, and why
- Look for an ice plug in the fill tube and the mould — A torch at the back of the maker shows it plainly.
- Clear anything leaning on the bin arm and empty the bin — Then wait a few hours. It needs nothing you do not already own.
- Check the cabinet is level front to back — A tray out of true spills between fills, which is what produces a fused block instead of cubes.
What to try before calling anyone
- Turn the maker off and on at its own switch — A module that has stalled part way through a harvest often clears when it is allowed to start the cycle from the beginning.

- Wash the bin and the mould surround with warm water — Old ice welds itself into a mass that jams the ejector, and a clean bin is also the only way to tell whether new ice is actually being made. This is safe owner work as long as the power is genuinely off.

Read this before touching it
Safety
Take the plug out of the wall before you start, and keep it where you can see it. Give it a moment after switching off; charge lingers where you would not expect it. The sealed side, meaning the compressor, its tubing and the charge inside them, is not owner territory at any level of confidence. If a guard or switch is in your way, that is the point at which the job stops being yours.
Where the owner side ends
One rule decides it: if the cure is at the tap, the filter or the bin, do it yourself; if it needs the maker unbolted or wiring unplugged, call somebody. Where the page stops is where the evidence stops being visible from the outside. Bring somebody in straight away if the breaker trips when the cabinet starts; repeated tripping is the appliance telling you something has already failed.
