The door latch assembly and its switches are what keep the magnetron from running with the door open — leave that hardware exactly as the factory set it, and stop using an oven whose door does not close cleanly.
When to call a technician
Book an electrician as well if scorching is visible at the plug or socket, since the supply side is then involved. If the appliance is within its warranty, call the dealer before opening anything at all: the cover typically ends at the first panel screw.
