Kill the power first, at the outlet or at the panel, and keep it killed while a cover is off; capacitors store energy after the supply is gone. The refrigerant circuit stays sealed: it is pressurised, it is brazed, and an amateur opening is both a hazard and a reportable release. Nothing in the sealed circuit is an owner job: it is pressurised, and the law treats venting it as a violation in its own right.
The line between fix and call
Book a technician if the freezer will not hold 0 °F (−18 °C) or below, because no ice maker works properly above that and the cooling fault is the real job. When the appliance is doing something it has never done before and nothing about the installation has changed, book it instead of watching it.
