Before anything is condemned on a Chillfoce refrigerator, it is worth separating two different faults that look identical from the front: air that cannot circulate inside, and heat that cannot leave at the back. That puts ambient temperature outside what the unit was rated for at the top of the list here and a warm load, or too much of one at the bottom.
Symptoms, including the ones that mean something else
- Ice cream is soft but nothing has thawed — A small, consistent temperature rise rather than a failure — often a door or an ambient change.
- Condensation inside the cabinet walls — Warm humid air is entering somewhere and meeting cold surfaces.
- NEAR MISS — the unit is completely silent and nothing is cold — That is a power or a start-component fault and it belongs on the no-power page, not this one.
What causes this, in order of likelihood here
- Ambient temperature outside what the unit was rated for — Refrigeration is rated against surrounding air. It leads because these are used in garages, offices and dorm rooms, where the surrounding air is nothing like the conditions the platform was rated in.
- A door that is not actually sealing — A gasket that has taken a set, a door resting against the latch rather than closed, or a shelf holding the door open by a hair will warm a cabinet without any other fault present. A thin magnetic gasket on a light door is the part that decides whether a compact unit holds anything at all.
- A blocked or dirty condenser coil — The coil is how the unit gets rid of the heat it removed. A small condenser has no reserve — a light coat of dust on one of these does what a heavy coat does on a full-size unit.
- A condenser fan that has stopped — The coil can be spotless and still shed no heat if the fan beside it is not turning.
- A warm load, or too much of one — Everything put in warm has to be cooled by the same small system.
The order of checks
- Check what the air around the unit is doing — Measure the room, not the cabinet.
- Put a thermometer in each compartment overnight — One reading tells you little; two compartments over a night tells you which system is failing.
- Check the gap behind and above the cabinet — A unit in a tight alcove is re-breathing its own warm air.
What an owner can safely do
- Move the unit out and give it its stated clearance — Then leave it closed for a day before judging whether anything changed.
- Check the doors close themselves from a hand-width open — If not, level the cabinet slightly nose-high and try again.

- STOP at the point where a panel or a meter is needed — Testing a fan motor, a defrost heater or a sensor means live terminals behind a panel.
Read this before touching the machine
Safety
Everything above is done with the unit plugged in and closed, or with it unplugged. The moment a panel has to come off, kill the power at the breaker first: a stored charge does not care that the machine is off. Never wedge or tape a door switch to keep a fan running while you look.
When this stops being a home repair
Call once the condenser, the door and the air path are all clean and the cabinet still will not hold temperature — at that point the remaining candidates are behind a panel.
