The short answer

- Cabinet not level or resting on one roller — Ranked first because it takes a level and a wrench, and because it silences a large share of vibration complaints outright.
- Condenser fan blade striking debris or a shroud that has shifted — Second: the lower compartment is where dust, cardboard and pet hair collect, and any of them will sit in the blade path.
- Evaporator fan icing or bearing wear — Third, and the freezer door test decides in seconds whether it belongs higher.
- Drain pan, kick plate or a loose interior part — Fourth: a pan that has slipped its seat buzzes in sympathy with the compressor and sounds far worse than it is.
- Ice maker harvest stalling against a jam — Last, and the cause most often fixed by emptying and reseating the bin.
Check in this order, and why
- Time the noise before you chase it — Seconds every few hours, minutes at a time, or only on compressor start — the period identifies the part faster than the sound does.
- Switch the ice maker off for a day — A free, reversible test. Silence during that day settles the whole water side of the list.
- Stand behind the unit with it running — Condenser-side noise is obvious from the back and almost inaudible from the front, which is the cleanest separation available.
- Only then take the freezer rear panel off — Unplug first. The evaporator coil and fan blade are what you are inspecting, and both need the power gone.

Unplug before any panel comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Levelling one of these cabinets means taking the weight on the feet, not rocking a loaded cabinet: empty the doors first, have a second person steady it, and never tilt it backwards far enough for the compressor oil to move into the lines.
