Check in this order, and why
- Rock the cabinet gently at a front corner — Movement means the feet or rollers are not carrying it evenly, and that alone accounts for most vibration complaints.
- Press a hand on the drain pan and the rear panel in turn — A rattle that changes under light hand pressure is a loose part, not a failing motor.
- Listen at the freezer with the door switch held in — This is the only way to hear the evaporator fan under normal operation without the panel off.
Before you open anything

Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.
