The short answer
A Caf CHE ice maker fails in a pattern: water arrives or it does not, and the mould harvests or it does not. The matrix below carries a single model tag, so there is no revision fork to work around on this family: what holds for that tag holds for the line. Settling which half is broken takes one look into the mould and costs nothing, and it is the step the brand-generic article cannot put in the right order for a specific platform.
What you can observe on these models
- The bail arm is in the raised position — On arm-equipped models this is the off switch, and it is knocked up by a shifted bin more often than anyone expects.
- Water pools under the bin and refreezes — Overfill or a misaligned fill tube. It ends as a sheet of ice under the bin and a jammed auger.
- The bin is empty and the mould is dry — No water is arriving. Everything upstream — arm position, shutoff, filter, fill tube, valve — comes before any thought of the module.
- NEAR MISS — no ice and no cooling either — If the freezer is not holding temperature, the ice maker is a symptom. Work the cooling page first; the ice returns when the cold does.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Freezer temperature above the harvest point — First on a cabinet whose cubes are also fusing in the bin: both symptoms come from the same warm freezer, and fixing the ice maker would fix nothing.
- Supply flow — shutoff partly closed, filter restricted or a kinked line — Second because it is the cause that reappears after any move or filter change.
- Fill tube ice plug — Third: it follows from the two causes above rather than standing alone, so clearing it without fixing them buys a few days.
- Dispenser chute or auger jam — Fourth — empty the bin, break the sheet under it and try again before ordering anything.
- Module, ejector or inlet valve — Last: the electrical parts, and the ones that need a meter to condemn honestly.
Check in this order, and why
- Look into the mould before anything else — Dry means a water-side fault; full and frozen means a harvest fault. Nothing else in this list splits the tree so cleanly.
- Check the bail arm and the on-off control — On these models a raised arm stops production entirely and a shifted bin is enough to raise it.
- Run the dispenser and watch the water flow — A thin or slow stream is the filter or the supply, and it explains hollow cubes without any further work.
- Feel for a frost plug at the fill tube — Clear it with warm air at a distance, never with a screwdriver — the tube deforms and the next fill misses the mould.
Before you open anything
Safety
Power off at the plug or the breaker before any panel comes off; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Close the water shutoff before disturbing the supply line or the filter head, and have a towel ready — the line stays under pressure until it is bled. Never run the ice maker with a hand near the ejector.

When to call a technician
Call when the fault survives a filter change, a full bin clear-out and a fill-tube thaw, or when the freezer itself is not holding 0 °F (−18 °C). A warm freezer is a cooling repair and the ice maker is only the messenger. Anything that needs the valve replaced at the back of the cabinet, or the module harness unplugged, is a service call on these models.
