A a Budweiser refrigerator that shows nothing at all is a power problem far more often than an appliance problem. The order below reflects that: the supply is checked before anything inside the cabinet. That puts no power at the outlet at the top of the list here and a control board, lockout or a mode the unit was left in at the bottom.
What owners actually report
- It worked until the cabinet was moved — Moving loosens plugs, kinks cords and trips protective devices.
- It runs for a few minutes after being plugged in, then stops — A protective cut-out, or a control that is not seeing what it expects.
- NEAR MISS — everything runs but the cabinet is warm — That is a cooling fault, and the checks are completely different.
What causes this, in order of likelihood here
- No power at the outlet — A tripped breaker, a tripped GFCI upstream, a switched outlet turned off or an outlet on a circuit that failed silently. Supply is proved before anything is condemned, because a dead outlet and a dead appliance look identical.
- A tripped GFCI or a switched outlet — Garage and basement outlets are commonly protected or switched, and the reset may be in another room entirely. It sits here because an electrical cause is both the cheapest to rule out and the one with real safety weight.
- A door switch stuck open or closed — A stuck switch can leave a light out or a fan off and convince an owner the whole unit is dead when only one circuit is. Glass doors on these cabinets are hinged for looks rather than for closing force, so a door that does not swing itself shut is a routine finding.
- A control board, lockout or a mode the unit was left in — Many cabinets have a display lock, a showroom mode or a power-save state that makes a working unit look dead until it is taken out of it.
The order of checks
- Test the outlet with something else — A lamp or a phone charger settles in seconds whether the problem is the wall or the appliance.
- Reset the breaker and any GFCI on that circuit — A GFCI in a garage or outdoors often feeds the outlet without anyone remembering it is there.
- Listen at the back for a click every few minutes — A repeated click with no run is a start device or a protector cycling.
Step by step, as far as it is safe to go
- Check every reset on the circuit, including in other rooms — GFCI devices protect downstream outlets that can be a long way from the button.
- Leave the cabinet unplugged for a few minutes and plug it back in — Listen carefully for the compressor attempting to start.
- STOP before opening the compressor compartment — Testing a relay or an overload means working at the compressor terminals. That is a technician job.

Do not run a refrigerator from an extension lead or a power strip, and get help moving a loaded cabinet. Unplug it before any work at the back, whatever the symptom.
When this stops being a home repair
Call an electrician when the outlet itself is dead or the breaker will not hold, and an appliance technician when the supply is proved and the cabinet still does nothing. A unit that clicks at intervals belongs to the second group.
