What you actually see
- The display shows a temperature the cabinet clearly is not — A sensor reading the control trusts more than it should.
- An error indication with no obvious symptom — A stored fault that the cabinet is reporting without having stopped working.
- The cabinet runs continuously while the display looks correct — The control is acting on an input rather than a fault, and the input is wrong.
- NEAR MISS: nothing lights at all and nothing runs — That is a power or start problem, not a control fault.
The causes in order of likelihood
- Control lock, demonstration or showroom mode active — Most likely here. It leads on a licensed cooler because the panel is a stock module with a lock gesture most owners never learn. The cheapest of all possible answers and genuinely common. The panel behaves normally but refuses every change, or the lights run and the cooling never does.
- Loss of low-voltage supply to the control — Next most likely. A board that has lost its supply looks like a board that has died, and the two repairs are not the same price.
- User interface board or ribbon connection failure — Third in the order. Membrane panels fail at the connector and at the flex tail, particularly where they cross a door hinge.
- Main control board failure — Then this one. Last, because everything above imitates it and because it is the expensive conclusion the other checks exist to avoid.

The diagnostic order
- Look for a lock indicator and try the documented unlock gesture — It is free and it resolves a real share of unresponsive panels.
- Power the cabinet down fully for several minutes and back up — A genuine power cycle clears a latched state that a quick unplug does not.
- Put a separate thermometer in the cabinet and compare it with the display — This is the test that proves whether the control is lying, and nothing else does.

What you can do now
- Check for an active lock, sabbath, holiday or demonstration mode — Each of these makes a working cabinet look broken in a different way.
- Place an independent thermometer on a middle shelf — Read it after several hours with the door kept shut, and compare it against the display.
