What is actually happening
Most drain complaints on the BRDWSH line are cleared with a jug, a sponge and ten minutes at the filter. The ranking below exists to stop owners buying a pump for a fault that a label caused.
The observable tells
- NEAR MISS - water left after a cycle that was interrupted — A cycle stopped mid-wash has not reached its drain step, and that is not a drain fault.
- A gurgling noise from the sink during the cycle — Air is being pulled through the waste, which usually means a vent or a trap problem rather than a machine one.
- NEAR MISS - a small film of water always left in the sump — Normal on machines of this type; a little water is retained by design to keep seals from drying.
- Drainage got slower over several months — Silting rather than a sudden blockage, and it responds to a filter and sump clean.
- The pump runs and the level does not fall — The pump is healthy and something downstream is blocking the path.

- Drain hose not high-looped — Without the loop the machine can siphon or take water back from the waste, which presents as a drain that never finishes.
- Waste disposal knockout never removed at installation — A classic installation fault: the machine drains into a blind connection and has never been able to empty properly.
- Drain hose kinked behind or under the machine — Common in a fitted kitchen where the hose is pushed into a tight space when the machine goes back.
- Filter and sump blocked with debris — First on this family: it is the designed collection point, so it is where the blockage almost always is.
The diagnostic order for these models
- Look at the waste connection under the sink — A disposal knockout still in place or a silted spigot explains a machine that has never drained well.
- Run a tap hard into the sink and watch the waste — If the sink itself drains slowly, the machine was never the problem and no repair to it will help.
- Turn the drain impeller by hand once the filter is out — A jammed impeller is obvious to a finger and invisible to any other test.
- Check the drain hose behind the machine for a kink — Fitted kitchens crush hoses when a machine is pushed back, and the fault dates from that day rather than from wear.

Where the owner fix ends
