What is actually happening
Most leaks on the BRDW line are not the tub. They are a perished door seal, an overdosed wash foaming out of the door, a hose clip that has relaxed, or a waste connection that has worked loose.
What you observe
- NEAR MISS - condensation on the front of a cold machine — A cold door in a warm humid kitchen makes its own water and nothing is leaking.
- Water at the front of the plinth after a cycle — The classic door-seal position: water arrives during the wash and stops when the spray does.
- Foam escaping around the door — Overdosing or the wrong product rather than a machine fault, and it is the cheapest of these to fix.
- A damp cupboard floor beside the machine — That is the inlet or the waste connection rather than the door, and it often drips between cycles.
- A slow drip with the machine idle — The inlet side is under mains pressure permanently, so a fitting that weeps does it whether the machine runs or not.
Ranked causes for these models
- Machine not level in its housing — An out-of-level tub holds water to one side and spills at the door, and it is common after a floor or kitchen change.
- Tub seam or sump split — Last and rare. It is the only cause here that needs the machine opened, and everything above produces the same wet floor.
- Door seal perished, displaced or dirty — First on this family: the seal runs the whole way round a door that moves every day, and debris at the bottom of it is what starts the wear.
- Detergent overdose foaming out of the door — Second and free to fix: foam finds the door gap long before water would, and no part will cure it.
The order the layout dictates
- Look at the waste connection under the sink during a drain — A loose jubilee clip or a split spigot leaks only at that moment, which is why it has to be watched rather than inspected.
- Note which step of the cycle the water appears on — Fill, wash and drain implicate different components, so the timing is worth more than the location.
- Pull the machine out and watch a full cycle from the side — Slow and awkward, which is why it is low in the order, but it is the check that finds an internal clip.
- Run a finger round the door seal for grit, splits and displacement — Second because it is the leading cause, and the inspection is often the repair.

Power off at the breaker first, then shut the water off at the isolating valve. A machine that stopped mid-cycle still holds water in the sump, and it leaves when you least expect it.
