What is actually happening
The short answer for a leaking CR refrigerator: check the drain before the plumbing. A blocked defrost drain accounts for most of what owners describe as a leak, and it is the one cause on this platform that needs no tools and no parts.
Symptoms on this family
- A pool of clear water at the front of the base, below the door — It reappears within a day of being mopped up and is at cabinet temperature rather than warm.
- Water under the crisper drawers, on top of the liner floor — The drawers sit in a shallow tray of water and the salad greens spoil early because the humidity never drops.
- NEAR MISS - water dripping down the outside of the door — That is condensation on a cold surface in a humid kitchen, not a leak. Check the seal and the room rather than the drain.
- Frost on the food in the top drawer and water below it — Air is moving through a gap that should be sealed, condensing on the food and running down.
- NEAR MISS - an oily film in the water — Oil means the sealed system is open. Stop, unplug the cabinet and call a technician; this is no longer a drain question.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Water supply fitting weeping at the shut-off — Second on cabinets that have been moved. A compression fitting that has been flexed once will weep, and the drip runs along the floor to the front where it is finally noticed.
- Defrost drain blocked or frozen at the port — Ranked first on this family: the drain port sits at the back of the freezer floor and ices closed before it clogs, so the failure builds quietly over weeks with no warning.
- Drain trough misaligned after a shelf or panel refit — Ranks high wherever a previous repair went in. The trough is a friction fit on these cabinets and it does not click, so a panel put back a finger-width out sends the water past the port entirely.
- Fill valve failing to close fully — Rare here and easy to confirm: the water arrives on a fill schedule rather than a defrost schedule, and the ice maker makes hollow or oversized cubes at the same time.
Working the fault in order
- Check the drain trough alignment under the rear panel — Only after the drain port has been cleared: if water still misses the trough, the trough is the fault rather than the ice.
- Run a sheet of paper around the door seal — Where it slides out with no drag, the seal is not sealing, and that is the leak that is not a leak.
- Pull the cabinet out far enough to see the base pan — Do this second because it takes two people, but it settles the pan, the fitting and the shut-off in one look.
- Time the puddle against the ice maker — Switch the ice maker off for a day. If the floor stays dry, you have moved the fault to the supply side without opening anything.

Unplug the cabinet first. If you have to move it out to reach the back, walk it out rather than dragging it, and get a second pair of hands: a loaded door swings and the weight is all at the front.
