The answer before the explanation
A BougeRV ASPEN refrigerator that has become loud has usually changed its duty cycle, moved on its feet, or grown frost where air should be moving. Those three cover the large majority; a genuinely failed bearing is real but it is not where a diagnosis should start.
What you observe
- A deep hum that has got louder over months — Gradual is the key word. A compressor working against a restriction or a dirty condenser gets louder slowly rather than suddenly.
- Gurgling and popping a few minutes after the compressor stops — Refrigerant equalising and the liner contracting. Normal on every refrigerator of this type, and worth knowing so it is not chased.
- A buzz from the machine compartment at start-up only — The start relay and the condenser fan both live there, and both announce themselves at the moment the compressor kicks in.
- NEAR MISS - a loud click and then silence, with no cooling — That is a start component or an overload cutting out, and it belongs on the not-cooling page rather than here.
- Scraping that arrives after a spell of heavy door use — More door openings mean more humid air, more frost, and a fan blade that now has something to hit.
Ranked causes for these models
- Ice maker cycling and filling — Owners rarely count how noisy a fill and a harvest are until something else draws their attention to the cabinet. Worth eliminating before opening anything.
- Loose rear access panel or drip tray — Bottom of the list but the cheapest to rule out, and it presents as a rattle that appears and disappears with the season.
- Evaporator fan blade contacting frost build-up — First on this family by a wide margin: the fan sits close to the evaporator, so the ice does not have to grow far before it is in the blade path.
- Compressor internal wear — Last, and the only cause here that ends in a sealed-system repair. It is diagnosed by eliminating everything above it rather than by listening harder.
The order the layout dictates
- Pull the cabinet forward and clean the condenser — Slow, but it is both a test and a repair: a choked condenser makes noise and shortens compressor life at the same time.
- Open the freezer door with the noise running — The door switch stops the evaporator fan. If the noise stops with it, you have located the fault in one move and without a tool.
- Switch the ice maker off for a day — Removes an entire family of intermittent noises from the picture, which matters because intermittent noises are the hardest to chase.
- Rock the cabinet gently front to back — Any movement at a foot means the load is on three points and the shell is free to resonate. Level it before diagnosing anything mechanical.
