The reading in two sentences
Read e005 as this: the user interface and the power board have stopped communicating. Treat the oven as out of use while this stands: a panel that cannot reach the power board cannot be trusted to switch heat off either. You can settle whether this is a one-off or a real fault yourself; naming the failed part is not owner work.
Error codes
Reference| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
| e005 | Communication failure between the user interface and power board. |
What else is happening when this shows
- The oven stops mid-bake with the panel still lit — The link dropped during the cycle, and the control stopped rather than guessing.
- Buttons respond with a tone and nothing follows — The user interface is alive; the link between it and the machine is what has gone.
- NEAR MISS — nothing lights at all — That is a supply fault to the panel rather than a communication fault, and it is checked differently.
What triggers e005, most likely first
- A connector unseated by heat cycling at the fascia — It goes first because it is the commonest and the cheapest: the plugs behind an oven fascia are heated and cooled at every use, and one that has walked out of its socket stops the conversation with both boards perfectly healthy.
- A ribbon or harness chafed against the cavity — The link runs close to the hot cavity, and a conductor broken where it rubs an edge produces exactly this code intermittently before it does so permanently.
- A failed main control board — Last, and the reason the order matters: it is the most expensive part on the list and the least likely cause of a silent link.
The order to work through
- Check whether the panel still responds to touch at all — A responsive panel that changes nothing puts the fault in the link rather than in the interface.
- Note whether the code appears at power-up or only when heat is selected — At power-up it is the greeting between the boards; on selection it is the command that is not getting through.
- Note exactly when the code appears — At power-up, on a command, or mid-cycle — each answer points at a different part of the link.
The reset and the checks that follow it
- Cut power at the breaker for a full minute, then restore it — A communication fault that clears here and stays clear was a handshake that did not complete, not a broken link.
About 5 min
- Let the appliance dry out before judging the fault — If the code follows steam or heavy use, leave it powered off until it is dry and try again later.
About 60 min
- STOP HERE — the harness and the connectors are behind a panel — Reseating a connector means removing a panel and working next to live terminals. That is service work.
Before a panel comes off
Safety
Unplug the oven or switch off its breaker before any panel comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The cavity and the glass stay hot long after the heat is off, so let everything cool first. On a gas model, if you smell gas, leave the building and call the gas utility from outside.
Where an owner check ends
Call straight away if the panel is dead on one half, if you can see corrosion or water tracks behind it, or if the appliance will not act on any command.
Other codes on a Bosch oven
What is deliberately not here
Treat this as the general Bosch oven reading. It stops short of anything model-specific — part numbers, harness colours, connector layouts and service-mode entry — because those differ by family and a technician takes them from the rating plate rather than from a code. A family- or model-specific page, where one exists, is linked from the code index below and is the closer answer.
