Causes, most likely first
- A shared drain path between compartments — Why: meltwater from one compartment often drains through the other on a dual-zone unit, so water in the warmer side may have come from the colder one.
- A divider seal letting water cross between zones — Why: the seal between compartments is not a pressure seal, and meltwater tracks along it rather than reaching the drain.
- Meltwater from an accumulated frost layer — Why: the box does not defrost itself, so ice builds on the plate and all of it turns to water the moment the unit is switched off; this is by far the most common source.
