The short answer
On a Bodega dual-zone cabinet, frost or frozen bottles in one zone while the other runs warm means the sharing has stopped - a stuck damper or a stalled fan. Frost in both zones is the ordinary cause: humid air getting in past a door that is not sealing. Neither is a sealed-system fault.
What you observe
- Bottles freezing in one zone while the other is warm — The sharing signature. All the cold is staying where it was made.
- A frost layer on the cold surface at the back — Moisture from room air freezing on the coldest thing available.
- Frost in both zones after a humid week — Ordinary air exchange rather than a mechanical fault.
- Condensation running down the inside of the glass — The same humid air, on a surface that is cold but not freezing.
- NEAR MISS - light bloom after a party — Repeated door openings. It clears itself.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A stuck damper or stalled zone fan — First when only one zone is affected, and specific to this family. With the sharing path closed, the cold has nowhere to go, so the compartment it is made in overshoots badly while the other drifts.
- A door that is not sealing or self-closing — Second, and first when both zones frost. Two doors means one can fail alone, and a dropped hinge or a fouled gasket lets in a continuous ribbon of moist air.
- A zone set colder than its contents need — Third. Wine settings are often left at the coldest mark, and glass against the cold surface will freeze at a setting the rest of the cabinet is happy with.
- Bottles pressed against the cold surface — Fourth. Contact freezing looks alarming and is not a fault at all.
- A sensor reading wrongly in one zone — Last. Real, but the causes above explain most frost complaints here and all of them are cheaper to eliminate.
Check in this order, and why
- Measure both zones and compare them with their settings — One zone far too cold and the other too warm is the sharing fault.
- Watch and listen for the zone fan — Silence where the other zone is warm is the answer.
- Check both doors close themselves from half open — Either door can fail while the other is fine.
- Look at what is touching the cold surface — Contact freezing is not a fault.

- Put a thermometer in each zone for a full day — Measure rather than trusting the dials; the pattern is the diagnosis.

Safety
Unplug the cabinet before defrosting or removing any panel - a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never chip frost off a cold surface with a knife or screwdriver: a puncture ends the appliance because the sealed system cannot be repaired at home. Empty the racks before tilting or moving a tall cabinet, and never use a heat gun on a defrost, because the liner and the divider are thin plastic.
When to call a technician
Call when one zone stays frozen while the other drifts, because that is the damper or the zone fan and both sit behind an interior panel. Call as well when both zones frost within days of a defrost despite clean, closing doors, which points at a sensor rather than at use. Frozen bottles at the warmest setting is also a control fault rather than a habit.
