The short answer
On the WFTV family a cycle that hangs is nearly always waiting on water, on a drain or on a balance it cannot achieve. That reorders the brand-generic page, which reaches for the control board early.
What you observe
- Time remaining jumps up rather than down — Normal on a machine that recalculates, but repeated jumps mean a step is being retried.
- Stops with water in the drum — The machine is waiting on a drain it cannot complete; treat it as a drainage fault.
- The machine pauses for long periods mid-cycle — A soak or a balance retry, both normal in themselves, but repeated retries are not.
- It finishes but the load is soaking wet — The spin never completed, which is a balance or a drain fault rather than a cycle fault.
- NEAR MISS - nothing happens at all when start is pressed — That is a no-start fault and belongs on the start page.
Causes, most likely first on WFTV
- Fill restricted: taps, hoses or inlet screens — Ranked first on the WFTV family: the machine fills to a level rather than for a time, so a weak or half-closed supply stretches the cycle and can stall it altogether. The table above is one platform, so a weakness in the drain path appears on every code in it. This moves above drain restricted so the cycle cannot advance, which leads the brand-generic order, because this family is a single build with fixed access points.
- Drain restricted so the cycle cannot advance — Second: the control will not leave the drain step until the level has fallen, so a filter that is only half blocked hangs an entire programme with nothing else to show.
- Door lock not confirming — Third: nothing runs until the lock reports closed, so a lock that is confirming intermittently gives a cycle that starts, stops and starts again.
- Load balance and levelling — Fourth: this build would rather retry a spin than throw an unbalanced drum at its suspension, and the retry is what the owner reads as a hung cycle.
- Control board or the cycle selector — Last: last, because drain, fill and balance between them account for nearly every stalled cycle on this family.
Check in this order, and why
- Note which step the cycle stops at — Drain, fill and spin each point somewhere different, and this costs nothing.
- Clear the pump filter and confirm the drain hose is not kinked — Do this if the machine stops with water in the drum.
- Check both taps are fully open and the inlet screens are clear — A slow fill is the commonest cause of a cycle that runs far too long.
- Redistribute the load and run a spin alone — Last, and it settles whether the machine is simply refusing to spin an unbalanced load.
Before you open anything
Safety
Kill the power and the taps before any hose is touched. A drum full of water is very heavy, so drain it before tipping or moving the machine.
When to call a technician
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Taps, screens, filter and load are owner work. Call when the machine stalls with all of those proven good.
