The short answer
On a Bizt RN refrigerator an ice maker that has stopped is usually being stopped by something else: a freezer that is not cold enough to harvest, water that is not arriving, or an arm or sensor that thinks the bin is full. The ice maker itself is the last of those to suspect, not the first. Every check in the first half of this page is made without a tool. The RN key covers more than one build, and for this fault the difference shows in whether your unit has a fan behind the freezer back wall.
What the owner actually sees
- The bin is empty and stays empty — Note whether the bin emptied gradually or all at once.
- Cubes arrive, but far fewer than they used to — Slow is more often the filter than the module.
- Small, hollow or misshapen cubes — Hollow shells usually mean the fill stopped early.
- Ice that has welded itself together — This one usually arrives with a door or seal story.
- The dispenser still gives water but no ice — That puts the supply, the valve and the filter behind you and moves the freezer temperature to the front.
- NEAR MISS — a leak that appeared at the same time — A leak at the fill line or the filter head is its own fault and has its own page.
Causes, ranked for the RN build
- The freezer is not cold enough to complete a harvest — This ranks first wherever the dispenser still gives water, because the water half of the system has already proved itself. A door left ajar overnight produces exactly this for a day afterwards.
- The fill tube or the fill valve is restricted, or plugged with ice — Second, and first on plumbed builds that have been moved or serviced recently: a fill tube that freezes once tends to freeze again.
- The water filter is past its life or was fitted badly — Mid-list but the cheapest to rule out, which is why it is checked early even though it is not the likeliest.
- The ice maker module, ejector or heater has failed — It is ranked last on purpose — most calls booked for a dead ice maker turn out to be one of the four above.
Check in this order, and why
- Ask the dispenser whether water is arriving — No water at all sends you to the supply and the filter instead.
- Check the arm or the sensor eye is clear — Takes ten seconds and removes the most embarrassing cause.
- Read the freezer temperature before anything else mechanical — If the freezer is warm, this is a cooling page rather than an ice page.
- Inspect where the water enters the mould — A visible plug explains hollow cubes and no cubes equally well, and it clears with warm water.
- Take the filter out of the question — Worth doing early because it is the cheapest move on the list.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Leave the door switch and its wiring exactly as they are: it cuts the fan for a reason, and a unit that runs with the door open ices the evaporator faster than it cools the food.
When to call a technician
The condition is whether anything remains that you can prove from the front of the cabinet. While the dispenser gives water, the arm is free and the freezer is cold, the remaining causes are all behind the mounting plate, and that is a call. If water is not arriving at all and the shut-off valve is not obviously closed, that is also a call rather than a plumbing experiment.
