The short answer
Water in or under a BESTEK thermoelectric cooler is condensation the unit made itself from room air, not a leak from any supply. In a humid room it will make a great deal of it. Check the drain path and how the unit sits, and expect water on the outside of the cabinet in damp weather as normal rather than as a fault.
What you observe
- A pool in the bottom of the cabinet — Condensation that could not reach the drain.
- Water on the shelf under the cold plate — Meltwater dripping off the plate as the frost film thaws.
- Beads of water on the outside of the cabinet — Room humidity on a cold surface, which is not a fault.
- NEAR MISS — water with a cabinet that is not cold — Then the unit has stopped working and the water is the last of its condensation.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A blocked or absent drain path — First: the drain is a small hole or channel at the base of the plate, and dust or a wrapper stops it. The condensation then collects in the cabinet floor.
- A humid room or vehicle — Second, and not a fault at all. The warmer and damper the air, the more water the plate collects, and in a summer car it can be a surprising amount.
- A cabinet that is not sitting level — Third. The drain works by gravity, and on a desk or a car seat these light cabinets rarely sit truly flat, so water pools at the low corner instead of draining.
- A door held ajar or a poor seal — Fourth, always contributing: more humid air in means more condensation than the drain was designed to carry.
Check in this order, and why
- Decide whether the water is inside the cabinet or on its surfaces — Outside means humidity, and it needs no repair.
- Look for the drain channel at the base of the plate — It is the likeliest internal cause and clears in seconds.
- Check whether the cabinet sits flat — A tilted cabinet pools water at one corner regardless of the drain.
- Check the door seats fully — It explains volume rather than blockage.
What an owner can safely check
- Unplug the cooler and empty it — Work on a dry cabinet so you can see where water is collecting.
Tools: clothAbout 10 min
- Clear the drain channel and hole — Use warm water and a soft wire only; never force anything stiff into it.
Tools: warm water, soft wireAbout 15 min
- Stand the cooler level on a flat surface — In a vehicle, use a flat base rather than a seat cushion.
Tools: spirit levelAbout 10 min
- Dry the cold plate and the interior fully — A dry interior frosts and condenses less on restart.
Tools: cloth, towelsAbout 10 min
- Ventilate the space and keep the door shut — Both reduce the amount of water the unit has to deal with.

Safety
Unplug the cooler, and disconnect it from any vehicle supply, before clearing the drain or drying the interior — you will otherwise be handling water around a powered appliance. Never push a sharp probe into the drain; the thermoelectric assembly sits behind the plate. Keep water away from the supply lead and the socket, particularly in a vehicle.
When to call a technician
Call, or replace the unit, only when the drain is clear, the cabinet is level, the door seals, and water still collects while the cabinet is cooling normally. On an appliance this simple there is very little to repair, so ask the price first. A unit that is wet and no longer cooling should be dried out and taken out of use rather than run.
