The short answer
A Bertazzoni MAS oven that will not reach or hold temperature is usually failing at one element, one igniter or one sensor rather than everywhere at once. On this family the first useful split is whether bake, broil or both are affected, because that single observation eliminates most of the list.
What an owner actually sees
- Bake does not heat but broil does, or the reverse — A single heating path has failed. This is the most useful observation on the page and it needs no tools.
- Neither bake nor broil heats, but the oven lights and responds — Look at what the two paths share: the control relay, the sensor, or on a gas build the safety valve.
- The oven reaches temperature but takes far longer than it used to — An element that has lost output, a weak igniter on a gas build, or a door that is no longer sealing.
- NEAR MISS — the oven does not respond at all — A completely dead oven with no display and no lights is a supply or control fault rather than a heating fault. Start from the will-not-start diagnosis instead.
What it usually turns out to be, in order
- Bake or broil element failed, or the igniter weak on a gas build — First on this family. Elements fail open and often visibly; gas igniters weaken gradually and stop drawing enough current to open the safety valve, which produces an oven that clicks and glows but never lights.
- Oven temperature sensor drifted or failed — Second. A sensor reading high tells the control the oven is hotter than it is, and the oven runs cool or stops heating altogether.
- Door seal failed or the door not closing square — Third, and much more consequential than owners expect. Heat leaving past a gasket makes the oven run cool, cycle constantly and cook unevenly, and it costs nothing to test.
- Control board relay or the thermostat not calling for heat — Fourth. The tell is both paths dead while the display behaves normally. It needs a meter and is not an owner diagnosis.
Check in this order, and why
- 1. Run bake and broil separately and note which heats — Ten minutes, no tools, and it eliminates most of the list. Do this before anything else. The MAS family covers several builds, so confirm which one you have in the table below before committing to any teardown.
- 2. Put a thermometer on the centre rack and read it after the cycling settles — This separates no heat from not enough heat, which are different faults with different costs. With several models in the family, note yours from the table before quoting a part number to anyone.
- 3. Look at the elements cold and then at low heat, and test the door seal with paper — A visible break is conclusive. Paper that slides out without drag marks a dead spot in the gasket. Leave this until the cheaper checks are settled.
Read this before touching the appliance
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. If you smell gas: do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or 911 from outside.

Owner fix or service call
Call when one path is dead and the element shows no visible break, because confirming an element or an igniter needs a meter and the rear panel off. Call as well when both paths are dead with a normal display, which points at the control or the sensor. On a gas build, call for anything involving the safety valve or the supply.
