The short answer
Arcing, scorching, a burning smell or a tripping breaker on a Bertazzoni MAS oven means stop using the appliance now. What an owner actually sees
- Sparks or a bright flash inside the cavity during heating — Almost always an element that has failed open and is arcing across the break. Switch the circuit off at the panel.
- A burning smell from behind or above the control panel — Wiring or a connection rather than an element. There is nothing an owner should open to look for it.

- Terminal block or supply connection burnt — Second, and the most dangerous of the group. Heavy current through a connection that has loosened generates heat, the heat degrades the connection further, and the failure accelerates.
- Damaged internal wiring or a chafed harness — Third. Usually from an earlier repair or from a harness resting against a hot surface. It produces intermittent tripping and a smell without a clear source.
- Control board or relay failure with visible scorching — Fourth. The board is behind the panel and is not an owner-serviceable area on this appliance at any point.
Check in this order, and why
- 1. Switch the circuit off at the panel — Before anything else, and regardless of which symptom brought you here.
- 2. Note exactly what happened and when — Flash in the cavity, smell at the back, trip on switch-on, trip when hot.
- 3. Look into the cold cavity for a broken or burnt element — A visible break, a blown-out section or a scorch mark on the cavity wall behind an element is a conclusive finding and a safe one to make with the power off.
