The short answer
Without a model code you cannot look a fault indication up in a table, so a cycle that will not finish has to be diagnosed by observation instead. That turns out to be no great loss: a washer that stops mid-cycle is almost always waiting on one of four conditions, and all four are visible from outside the door.
What you observe
- The machine is silent with time remaining — It is waiting on a condition, not broken.
- Cold programmes complete and hot ones stall — A heating fault rather than a control one.
- The drum tumbles, pauses and tumbles again — A load the drum cannot balance.
- Every programme runs longer than it used to — A slow fill: a blocked inlet screen or a partly closed tap.
- NEAR MISS - it stops with water in the drum — That is drainage; the drainage page covers it.
Causes, most likely first on this family
- Slow or restricted water fill — First, because it affects every programme and both checks are free.
- Unbalanced load — Second, and cleared by redistributing and restarting the spin.
- Heater or temperature sensor — Third, and identified by cold programmes finishing where hot ones do not.
- Too much detergent — Fourth. Foam means extra rinses, and extra rinses mean extra time.
- Pressure system or main control — Last, and what remains once the others are proven.
Check in this order, and why
- Watch for two minutes and decide whether anything is happening — First, because a long cycle and a stalled one look the same through a closed door.
- Check both taps are fully open and the inlet screens clear — Second, and it explains a machine slow on every programme.
- Run the same load on a cold programme — Third. It separates a heating fault from everything else.
- Redistribute the load and restart the spin — Fourth, if the machine stalls before the spin.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the machine before removing any panel, and close the taps before unscrewing a hose - the supply is under pressure whenever the tap is open. Never force the door mid-cycle: the interlock holds it while the drum is full or turning, and the water can be hot.
When to call a technician
Call when the taps are open, the screens are clean, the load balances and cold programmes complete but the machine still stalls, because what remains is a heater, a sensor or the control. Call immediately if the machine trips its breaker during a cycle.
