The short answer
On the BFLB line standing water is a filter question first, because this platform runs its entire drain flow through a filter housing at the base that is easy to reach and easy to leave half-open. Where the generic page ranks the drain hose second, on the models listed in the table on this page the impeller comes second: the sump is shallow here and hard objects reach the pump quickly.
What the owner actually sees
- The drum drains very slowly rather than not at all — Slow is a restriction and stopped is a blockage. They are the same causes at different stages.
- The drain hose end is submerged in the standpipe — A hose pushed too far down siphons and can seal against the pipe wall, fighting the pump on every cycle. The BFLB line behaves the same way here from one model to the next.
- The pump hums but the level never drops — A jammed impeller draws current and makes noise without moving water. It is the clearest single symptom on this page.
- Washing comes out soaking after the spin — Sodden laundry is the downstream symptom: no drain means no spin.
- The pump is completely silent at the drain step — Silence at pump-out is a different diagnosis from a hum, and it usually ends in a service call.
- NEAR MISS — the machine never filled in the first place — No fill means no drain to diagnose. Check the taps first.
- NEAR MISS — water is on the floor rather than in the drum — Outside the machine is a leak; inside it is drainage.
The ranking that matters
- An object jammed in the pump impeller — Ranked first on this platform. A coin or an underwire past the filter stops the impeller dead. The pump hums, draws current and moves nothing. What separates the BFLB line here is the order, not the parts.
- A failed drain pump or its capacitor — Second, and common. Genuinely possible but far down the list — every cheaper cause imitates it exactly.
- A drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe — Third. Submerged, the hose siphons and can seal against the pipe. The pump then works against a column of water it cannot shift. It is one of the few places the models listed in the table on this page genuinely diverge.
- A pump that is failing intermittently — Less common than the three above. A pump with a worn bearing runs on some cycles and stalls on others, which reads as an intermittent blockage.
- A blocked drain pump filter — Uncommon here. The filter is designed to catch debris and it does. Left uncleaned for a year it stops passing water altogether.
Working through it in order
- Turn the impeller by hand with the machine isolated — With the power off and the filter out, the impeller should spin freely. Resistance means a jam.
- Pull the machine out and straighten the drain hose — Look for a fold behind the cabinet and check how far the hose is pushed into the standpipe. On the models listed in the table on this page this is the check that decides the job.
- Run the sink and watch the standpipe — If household waste is slow, the machine was never the problem.
- Run a rinse-only cycle with no detergent — If a sudsy machine suddenly drains, over-dosing was the cause and nothing is broken.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Turn off both taps before opening a hose, and have a shallow tray and towels ready: a drum and a filter housing hold more water than owners expect. Leave the door lock and its wiring exactly as they are.

The line between a fix and a call
Call when the filter is clean, the impeller turns freely, the hose is straight and the sink runs — what is left is the pump, the pressure system or the control, and all three need a meter. Call sooner if the machine trips the circuit at the drain step.
