The short answer
Cleaning faults on the DUT line split cleanly into flow problems and chemistry problems. Flow problems show as one sector of the load coming out dirty; chemistry problems show as the whole load coming out filmed or cloudy. Deciding which pattern you have is the single most useful thing to do first.
What you observe
- Items come out wet as well as dirty — On the models listed in the table on this page, poor drying alongside poor cleaning suggests low water temperature, since these models rely on residual heat in the load to dry it.
- Dried-on deposits reappear after a good clean — Debris that returns within a cycle or two points at the filter stack, since water is being recirculated through whatever the mesh failed to hold.
- The lower spray arm will not turn by hand — Something is catching it, and an arm that cannot turn sprays one direction only while the machine sounds entirely normal. The models in the table behave the same way here.
- NEAR MISS: water remains in the tub at the end — That is a drain fault and the drainage page for this family covers it, although the same filter blockage often causes both.
Causes, most likely first
- A blocked or partly blocked filter stack — First on the DUT line because both spray arms are fed through it: a mesh that is three quarters full reduces flow to every jet at once, so the whole machine washes weakly rather than one part failing. That holds across every model this page covers.
- Loading that shields the load from spray — Second and entirely free to fix. A tray across the lower rack, nested bowls, or a handle stopping the upper arm each remove a whole sector from the wash while the machine runs perfectly. That is true of every model this family spans.
- Scale on the heater and the jets in a hard-water area — Scale narrows every jet and insulates the element, so a machine in a hard-water district declines steadily even when the filters are kept clean.
- Detergent stored badly or past its usable life — Tablets absorb moisture and stop dissolving properly, which produces a machine that washes with plain hot water and no chemistry at all.
- A failed heating element or wash pump — Last on this platform because every cause above it produces the same result more cheaply and far more often. A machine that genuinely never heats also dries nothing at all, which is the distinguishing observation.
Check in this order, and why
- Load the machine, then spin both spray arms by hand — First because it is free and because an arm that strikes an item is the whole fault surprisingly often on the DUT line. It is the same on all the models in the table on this page.
- Unscrew and wash the filter stack — Second because both arms are fed through it, so it is the one component that degrades the entire wash at once rather than one sector.
- Hold each arm up to the light and check every jet — Third: a plugged hole is visible immediately and clears with a cocktail stick and a rinse, and it explains a band of dirty items with clean ones either side. This applies to the whole line rather than to one model.

Power the machine down at the breaker before any panel comes off. If the machine has been running hot cycles, open the door and let the steam clear before reaching in: a face over an opened tub at the end of a hot programme is the most common scald on these appliances.

When to call a technician
