The answer first
No-start on the DDN line is a chain fault: supply to the machine, door closed and latched, programme accepted, water available. The machine will not move past any broken link, and it gives the same silence for all four. Work the chain in order and the cause appears within a few minutes.
What this looks like
- The panel is completely dark — Across the models this page covers, no indicators, no beep, no response to any button, which places the fault at the supply rather than anywhere inside the machine.
- The panel lights but the cycle never begins — The control has power and has accepted the selection, so the fault is in what the control is waiting for rather than in the control itself.
- A start indicator flashes and the machine stays silent — On these models a flashing start light is the signal that a precondition has not been met, most often the door latch. That is true of every model this family spans.
- The panel was wiped down shortly before the fault — Control locks arm with a long press, and a cloth held against a button does exactly that.
- NEAR MISS: the machine runs but leaves water in the tub — That is a drainage fault and belongs on the drainage page for this family.
Most likely causes first
- The door is closed but not latched — First on the DDN line by a wide margin. A protruding handle, a tall item in the upper rack or a slightly sagging door stops the latch engaging, and the panel still lights because the display is upstream of the latch switch. It is the same on all the models in the table on this page.
- No supply at the socket or a tripped breaker — Second because it is free to check and because a dishwasher shares its circuit with other kitchen loads often enough for an unrelated appliance to have tripped it. It does not vary across the models listed on this page.
- A service tap closed during unrelated work — The machine checks for fill before committing to a programme, so a closed tap produces a total and completely silent refusal with no error an owner can read.
- A latch switch that has become marginal — Between working and failed there is a stage where the switch makes contact only when the door is pressed, which produces an intermittent no-start that owners find maddening.
- A failed door latch switch or control board — Last, and the only one of these that is not an owner fix on this platform. Every cause above it produces the same silence, so replacing a board before the latch, the supply and the locks are proven is the classic wasted repair on these machines.
Where to start, and why
- Press the door firmly shut and listen for the latch — First because it is the most common cause on the DDN line and because the latch makes an audible click when it engages that a nearly-closed door does not. This applies to the whole line rather than to one model.
- Look for a protruding item in either rack — A handle through the upper basket or a tall board in the lower one holds the door a few millimetres proud, which is enough to stop the latch and invisible from the front.
- Check the socket with something else — Third, because it separates the appliance from the circuit in seconds and because a shared kitchen circuit is tripped by other loads more often than by the dishwasher. The models in the table behave the same way here.
