What this means on this line
A Beko BDI dishwasher that leaves its sump full has stopped moving water, not stopped trying. The pump usually runs through the whole drain phase while achieving nothing, which is why owners hear a machine that sounds entirely healthy and see a tub that never empties.
Symptoms on these models
- The programme runs long or stops part-way — Within this line, on these models the cycle waits for the level sensor to report an empty sump, so a slow drain stretches the run and a blocked one halts it.
- The machine gurgles at the sink when it tries to empty — A noise at the sink rather than at the appliance points at the house standpipe or the waste connection instead of the machine.
- Water appears in the tub again some hours after a cycle — A drain hose that was never looped high enough lets waste water siphon back, so a machine that drained correctly refills itself while standing idle. Every model in this family behaves this way.

Why it happens, in order
- Debris packed into the filter stack — Broken glass, labels and seeds collect in the fine mesh first and the coarse basket second. On the BDI line the whole stack sits directly over the pump inlet, so a partial block starves the pump of flow before it stops it outright. That is true of every model this family spans.
- A kinked or trapped drain hose — On the models listed in the table on this page, the hose leaves these cabinets high and turns immediately, so pushing the machine back into a tight housing pinches it against the wall. It is the single most common cause that has nothing wrong with the appliance at all.
- An obstruction in the pump impeller — A fruit stone, a bottle cap or a shard that passed the mesh jams the impeller. The pump then hums without moving water, which is the sound owners describe as the pump running normally.
- A blocked waste connection or standpipe — The machine drains into shared household waste, so a partly blocked sink trap or a plugged spigot on a disposer stops the appliance even though the appliance is fine.
- A worn pump impeller that no longer moves water — Last because wear is gradual and because every blockage above it produces the same result instantly. It is distinguished by a machine that drains slowly with a demonstrably clear path.
What to check first, second, third
- Bail out the standing water first — A cup and a sponge, because every later check floods the floor otherwise and because the depth tells you whether the sump emptied partially or not at all. It does not vary across the models listed on this page.
- Unscrew and clear the whole filter stack — Second, because it costs nothing and because on the BDI line it sits over the pump inlet, so it explains both a slow drain and a stopped one.
