BDBU models take this one slightly differently. Water at the front of the machine is almost always the door: a tired gasket, a latch that no longer pulls the door square, or detergent foam overflowing past the seal. Water that only appears under the kick panel is a hose or a pump seal. The departure from the generic page is in where the first check goes.
Signs and near misses on a BDBU unit
- A slow drip behind the machine that never stops — Supply side, under mains pressure, and it is there whether the appliance runs or not. On the BDBU line this is where the checking starts.
- A damp cabinet side or swollen floor of the housing — An older leak that has been running unnoticed, and the damage dates it.
- Clean water rather than soapy water — That is fill-side water that has never reached the wash, so the fault is a supply hose or the inlet valve.
- NEAR MISS: the machine will not start and the floor is dry — A start fault, covered separately.
The ranking on the BDBU line
- A tired or dirty door gasket — Ranked first because it is both the most common and the easiest to confirm: grease and food residue on the seal stop it compressing, and the leak shows at the front centre of the door. On a BDBU unit this is still the first thing to eliminate.
- A blocked drain path forcing water out of the weakest joint — The link people miss: standing water that cannot leave finds another way out, so a drainage fault presents as a leak.
- A split tub or a failed pump seal — Last, because it is the least likely and the only one that is not owner-checkable. It is diagnosed once everything above is clean.
What to check first, second, third
- Establish whether the water is clean or soapy — Clean water is the fill side; soapy water has been through the wash. One touch, and half the list goes. The BDBU layout is the reason it comes first here.
- Put a spirit level on the door edge and on the tub floor — A machine that has been shuffled during a kitchen job is often out of level, and the low corner is where the water is.
- Check the hose clips at the inlet and the drain connections — Hand-snug, and look for the white mineral trail that a slow leak leaves behind.
What to do before you start
Safety
Unplug the dishwasher or switch off its breaker before any panel comes off, and keep it isolated while you work — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is gone. Water and a mains appliance share a floor here: mop before you kneel, and shut the supply valve before touching a fitting.

When to stop and call
Call once the gasket, the detergent, the level, the hose clips and the drain path have all been eliminated and the machine still leaks. What is left is the tub, the pump seal or the inlet valve. Call the same day if water is reaching an electrical connection.
