The short answer
Water in or under a Bangson compact refrigerator is defrost meltwater that has left its drain path, not a plumbing leak, because there is no plumbing. The blocked drain hole and a misplaced drip tray account for most cases, and both are owner work. Water at the front of the cabinet usually means it is not sitting level.
What you observe
- Water pooling under the salad drawer — Meltwater that could not reach the drain hole at the back.
- A puddle on the floor beneath the cabinet — The drip tray is overflowing, misaligned or missing.
- Water running down the inside back wall — Normal in itself; it becomes a fault only when it does not drain away.
- NEAR MISS — water with soft food and a thick ice slab — Then the cabinet has stopped cooling properly and the water is the evidence, not the fault.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- A blocked defrost drain hole — First on this platform, because the hole is small and sits at the lowest point of the back wall where crumbs and label paper collect. Once it blocks, meltwater backs up and runs forward into the cabinet.
- A drip tray knocked out of place — Second: the tray simply rests in clips above the compressor and shifts whenever the cabinet is moved. A tray half out of position spills everything the drain sends it.
- A cabinet that is not level — Third, and a compact cabinet is easy to tip: it is light, and it gets set on a desk shelf or a thin carpet. Tilted forward, meltwater never reaches the drain hole at all.
- A door seal letting humid air in — Fourth. More incoming humidity means more frost and more meltwater than the drain was designed for, so a marginal drain finally overflows.
Check in this order, and why
- Find the drain hole at the back of the liner and test it — It is the likeliest cause and clears in minutes.
- Look underneath for the drip tray — Out of place or dry-and-cracked explains a floor puddle immediately.
- Check the cabinet is level, or tilted very slightly back — A forward tilt sends water the wrong way along the liner floor.
- Inspect the door gasket last — It is a contributing cause rather than a primary one here.

Safety
Unplug the refrigerator before flushing the drain or reaching under the cabinet — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and you will be handling water beside a powered appliance otherwise. Never push a stiff or sharp probe into the drain hole: the evaporator tubing runs behind that wall. Dry the floor as you work; a wet floor under a cabinet on castors is a hazard of its own.
When to call a technician
Call when the drain runs clear, the tray is seated, the cabinet is level, the gasket seals, and water still appears. Call promptly if the fluid is oily rather than clear or has a sharp chemical smell, because that is not defrost water and the cabinet should be switched off and left alone until it is looked at.
