The short answer
Ice that will not freeze in a Bangson compact refrigerator is a temperature problem at the freezer box, not an icemaker problem, because there is no icemaker. The usual culprits are a box iced over, a box door that will not shut, or a dial set for the fridge section at the expense of the box. All three are owner work.
What you observe
- Trays take a day or more to freeze — They eventually freeze but far too slowly to use.
- Ice forms soft, cloudy and slushy — The box is near freezing rather than below it.
- The box is coated in a thick ice slab — Frost has grown over the surface that should be freezing your trays.
- NEAR MISS — the fridge section is also warm — Then this is a cooling failure and the ice is only the first symptom you noticed.
Causes, most likely first on this brand
- Ice built up over the freezer box surface — First, because these boxes are manual-defrost and the ice is insulation. Once a slab forms, the box holds its own frost happily and freezes nothing new.
- The freezer box flap not closing — Second: the flap is light plastic on a simple hinge and an over-tall tray or a bag of frozen peas holds it open. The box then runs at fridge temperature.
- The dial set too warm, or a warm room — Third. One dial governs the whole cabinet, so a setting chosen to stop lettuce freezing also stops the box from making ice, and a warm room widens that gap further.
- Trays placed away from the cold surface — Fourth and easily missed: on a static cabinet the cold comes from the surface, not from circulating air, so a tray on a shelf below the box freezes far slower than one in contact with it.

- Look at the box for an ice slab — It is the likeliest cause and needs no tools.
- Shut the flap and watch whether it stays shut — A flap held open by contents explains the whole symptom.
- Check the dial and the room temperature together — They act on the box jointly, and neither tells you much alone.

Safety
Unplug the refrigerator before defrosting the box — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never chip, scrape or lever ice off the freezer box: the evaporator tubing is bonded into it, and a single puncture ends the appliance. Do not use a hair dryer or hot water inside the cabinet to speed a defrost.
When to call a technician
Call when the box has been defrosted, its flap shuts, the dial is at a cold setting, and trays still will not freeze solid within a normal overnight. That pattern means the box is not reaching freezing temperature at all, which points at the thermostat or the sealed system, and both are diagnosed with instruments rather than by eye.
