What is most likely happening
Almost every dryer complaint traces back to one thing: airflow. Poor drying, no heat, long cycles and overheating are usually the same underlying restriction seen from different angles, which makes the lint path the most valuable thing an owner can maintain. Causes in order of likelihood
- Airflow restriction, in all its forms — The dominant cause across the whole category. It presents as no heat, as slow drying, as cycles that stop early and as a cabinet that runs hot, and the same duct clean addresses all of them.
- Moisture sensing errors — Second. Softener film on the sensor bars makes automatic cycles end early or run on, and it is fixed with a cloth rather than a part.
- Door switch and start-circuit faults — Third: small wearing parts that stop the machine dead with no indication at all, which is why a no-start feels more serious than it usually is.
- Mechanical wear — rollers, idler, belt — Fourth. These arrive gradually with noise as the warning, and they are reached by dismantling the cabinet.
- Electrical faults — Least common, most serious, and more serious here than on other appliances because the cabinet contains lint. Any trip or scorched smell takes the machine out of service.

Safety
Unplug the machine or switch off its breaker before opening the cabinet — the heater circuit on this class of appliance carries real current and the terminals are exposed once a panel is off. Clean lint out with a vacuum, never with a blast of compressed air into the cabinet, and put every ducting section back the way it came off.
When to book a visit
Book a visit once the airflow path is genuinely clear and the fault is still there. That single qualification matters more on this appliance than any other, because a thermal fuse fitted without clearing the restriction that opened it fails again quickly. Treat electrical symptoms as urgent rather than routine: on a dryer the protective device is standing between a fault and a cabinet full of fuel.
